Welcome to the Midweek Memo: a weekly digest of the city’s top tech events, personnel moves, job openings, and industry opportunities.

Now, on to your Midweek Memo…

  • This week’s Tech Thursday event at the Pioneer focuses on GenAI.

  • The panel includes:

    • Dale Hopkins, CTO, Vendasta

    • Rob Woolley, VP of IT Operations, Benevity

    • Mike Yallits, Account Executive, Google

    • Tom Krywitsky, Customer Engineer, Google

  • The South-Asian VC Association of Canada aims to bring together investors, entrepreneurs, operators, and service providers to support the South-Asian community and the technology ecosystem.

  • The event will feature a 40-minute panel discussion with three of the prominent industry leaders, followed by networking.

  • This panel will be a sneak peak at the 2023 Innovation Week companies.

  • It will be a panel of 4 of the 10 companies selected by Platform Calgary to be showcased at Launch Party. Come hear what they are building.

  • The Velocity showcase is the culmination of an eight-week program where entrepreneurs work with industry experts and coaches to take their business to the next level in establishing a strong go-to-market strategy, polishing their pitches and working towards qualifying for scale-up accelerators.

  • The Southern Alberta Showcase will kick off with pitches from the founders, followed by networking and food

Innovation Week | Nov. 15-23

  • Innovation Week brings the tech community – from the tech-curious, to seasoned entrepreneurs and investors – together in celebration of all that’s happening in Calgary right now.

  • Innovation Week features content tracks oriented around key areas of a scaling tech ecosystem and entrepreneurial journey to help attendees organize their Innovation Week schedule and tailor their experience

Alberta Innovates Presents Scaleup GAP: Entrepreneurs Unplugged | Nov. 15 in Calgary & Nov. 22 in Edmonton

  • Presented by Alberta Innovates, Scaleup GAP: Entrepreneurs Unplugged is an event celebrating Global Entrepreneurs Month designed for tech startup founders in Alberta

  • Scaleup GAP offers a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse community of tech entrepreneurs, seasoned startup advisors, mentors, and industry experts

  • The event features two in-depth discussions:

    • The Founder Panel shares unfiltered stories of lessons and triumphs from founders and how they used the program to help accelerate their companies growth

    • The Mentor Panel provides essential guidance for startup success from expert Scaleup GAP staff

  • The five remaining Startup TNT Summit finalists hit the stage one last time before the Startup TNT angels announce the winner of over $150K in capital.

  • This event is part of the BIPOC and Rural Tech Founders event series, which is dedicated to fostering greater access to the innovation sector by accelerating startup companies led by diverse founders.

  • The deadline to apply to pitch is November 6.

  • Successful applicants will receive two free pitch coaching sessions and pitch to a crowd of supporters on November 22 at Platform Calgary for a chance to win cash prizes.

  • Innovation Week 2023 will wrap by highlighting some of Calgary’s most promising startups at Launch Party — the largest startup-focused showcase of the year.

  • 2,000+ people will come together to celebrate Calgary’s tech community and put a spotlight on 10 startups that made their mark this last year. Hundreds of companies have been showcased at Launch Party over the years, including big names like SkipTheDishes, StellarAlgo, Orpyx, Virtual Gurus, Red Iron Labs, and more.
